The Spanish Socialists (PSOE) concluded this Friday with the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) the agreement necessary to guarantee the reappointment of Pedro Sánchez as Prime Minister. The PSOE needed 176 deputies, and in the end 179 of the 350 deputies entered the Congress. In addition to the PNV, the PSOE government and the Sumar leftist platform, Sánchez has the support of the Republican Left of Catalonia, the Galician Nationalist Bloc, the Basque E. H. Bildu and Together for Catalonia (Junts). The Spanish “invention” forced the PSOE to make major concessions, such as the agreement signed with the Junts in exchange for an amnesty for the Catalans who fought for the region’s independence. Protests against Sánchez’s pardon of separatists were constant. Just yesterday, thousands of people took to the streets of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada and other cities to challenge the agreement. Dozens of people were detained. Demonstrations that are expected to be repeated this weekend.
