Pediatric cases surged in October

The number of pediatric emergency cases increased sharply in October compared to September, increasing by 61 percent. There were 86,332 pediatric emergency cases reported in September, with that number rising to 139,308 last month (an increase of 52,976). Data from the NHS’s daily and monthly emergency monitoring shows there were 530,497 emergency visits in October, of which almost 40% (206,613) were considered non-urgent. There was

222,068 users were verified with a yellow bracelet, and 49,033 were verified with an orange bracelet. There were 38,827 people hospitalized as a result of emergency care, with the highest number of users in Northern Region wards (197,204). There were 175,652 emergencies in services in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 30 thousand fewer than in the same month in 2022 – which could be due to restrictions in several hospitals. By department, the Hospital of São João (Porto) has 22,894 emergency cases, followed by Amadora Sintra (17,880), Braga (17,774), Gaia (16,994) and Santa Maria in Lisbon (14,635). From January to October, almost 5.19 million emergencies occurred, 55 thousand more than in 2022 – that is, 185 more emergencies per day.
