Tax and Customs (AT) is warning that taxpayers are being sent fraudulent ‘late payment’ emails asking them to make a bank transfer.
“Tax and Customs (AT) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails purporting to be from AT indicating a possible late payment requesting a bank transfer,” the security alert posted on the Financial Portal said. .
As usual, AT gives an example of sending fraudulent messages, in this case the taxpayer is informed that he has an amount in euros “for overdue payment of income tax for the year 2022-2023”.
“To avoid additional charges, we ask that you pay this immediately,” the same scam message states, adding that this is a “final reminder” and that “there will be additional charges” after that.
The message ends with an indication of the IBAN to which the transfer must be made.
The AT emphasizes that such messages are false and should be ignored, warning the taxpayer not to carry out the transaction.
Since the beginning of this year, the AT has already issued 11 warnings of this type.
