What happened was an improvisation on the part of the activists to create a situation that would promote the narrative that they were trying to restrict their freedom of expression.”
The statement said there had been a “new wave” of climate demonstrations since Monday, with actions including forms of blocking of events, including on Wednesday, with posters and tents erected in the main amphitheater and people sitting blocking access. to the room where the classes took place.
“Due to the refusal to facilitate access, the authorities again demanded intervention. It was in these circumstances that the police authorities carried out an intervention that led to the arrest of the activists in accordance with the decision and operational protocol of the institution. “, the university explains.
For those in charge of the college, the right to display and express one’s opinions was never in question, adding that in a democratic and open society, “there are rules of public life, including rules of public expression and rights and responsibilities that apply to everyone.”
The university states that the opinions of the students in question have not been, are not, and will not be questioned; “but first of all and only the adequacy of their behavior to the rules” of society, since “not a single director intends to interfere with the police authorities to restore the functioning” of the school.
