The Ministry of Health announced this Friday that it will resume negotiations with unions representing doctors next Thursday, following requests from union leaders for an immediate resumption of negotiations.
The round of talks will involve Health Minister Manuel Pizarro and Health Minister Ricardo Mestre, the health ministry said in a statement.
Earlier on Tuesday, the health minister will host unions at a technical meeting on two new topics: regulation of family health care facilities and comprehensive responsibility centers.
The Health Minister has already announced this morning in Vila do Conde that he will call on doctors’ unions for a new round of negotiations after negotiations broke down following the resignation of the Prime Minister.
The government official also admitted to reporters that he was more optimistic about negotiations with doctors because he did not see “any approach” to the government’s position from these medical workers.
“To be honest, I was already more optimistic because, to tell the truth, in recent months I have seen that the government is moving closer to the positions and demands of doctors, and I have seen that on the other side there is no approach to issues that I think the Portuguese understand some of them very well,” said Manuel Pizarro on the sidelines of the 5th International Congress and 12th National Medical Meeting on Paramyloidosis, which is taking place this morning in Vila do Conde, in the area from Porto.
The Independent Union of Doctors (SIM) and the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam) have called for the resumption of negotiations with the trusteeship, as they believe the government is fully prepared and should not force the problems of the National Health Service. to the next leader.
The last meeting between the Ministry of Health and medical unions was scheduled for November 8, but was canceled after Prime Minister Antonio Costa resigned.
Also this Friday, on the sidelines of an insurance conference in Lisbon, Finance Minister Fernando Medina asked whether the government would return to negotiations with doctors and said that the government was conditional in its actions.
