Daniel Monteiro was elected this Monday as the new president of the Portuguese Sports Confederation (CDP), receiving 26 votes in the second round of elections for the organization for the four-year period 2023-2027.
The former A-list ASU president defeated C-list Ricardo Jose by two votes in an election in which 52 registered members voted, with one empty vote and one zero vote.
In addition to Daniel Monteiro, Miguel Teixeira was elected President of the General Assembly, Luis Ferreira will head the Financial Council and Luis Paulo Relogio will head the Legal Council.
The date for the inauguration of the new governing bodies of the Portuguese Sports Confederation has not yet been determined, but according to the CDP press service, it will take place in the next few days.
Elections to the governing bodies of the Portuguese Sports Confederation (CDP) took place in the second round between Daniel Monteiro and Ricardo Jose after the first round did not give an absolute majority to either candidate.
List A, headed by Daniel Monteiro, then received 19 votes against 18 from List C, headed by the former president of the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities.
List B was excluded from the second round, led by the vice-rector of the University of Coimbra, Philippa Godinho, who received 15 votes out of 52 registered – the total number of members on the electoral roll.
Carlos Paula Cardoso, 76, was president of the CDA for five terms and 21 years, starting in October 2002, when he succeeded José Manuel Constantino, the current president of the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP), who resigned from his position to head leadership of the National Institute of Sports, predecessor of the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ).
