JN workers discuss collective dismissal intentions in plenary session Global Media

Workers at the Jornal de Notícias will discuss in plenary on Friday Global Media Group’s intention to proceed with collective layoffs within the group, according to an email sent by the newspaper’s union delegates.

In an email sent to the newsroom, which the Lusa agency had access to, delegates of the JN union say that the management of the Global Media Group (GMG) announced this Thursday its intention to carry out a collective dismissal in the group in order to counteract the financial situation, according to them , “very complex.”

On Friday at 15.30 the staff of this newspaper will hold an editorial plenary meeting.

When asked by Lusa, one union delegate said she had no further data on the matter as GMG management had not provided any further details, such as the number of workers who might be affected by the layoffs.

A plenary meeting of the JN editorial board has already been scheduled, but this situation will be discussed among workers, he added.

However, according to the email, JN union delegates told GMG management that it was “impossible to continue to produce a newspaper like JN with already meager resources that could reflect the stated intention.”

This “media” group owns Diário de Notícias (DN), Jornal de Notícias (JN) and TSF, among other publications.
