Former PSD leader Manuela Ferreira Leite warned this Saturday that the country is “not living through a time of radicalism” and needs moderation, expressing solidarity with party president Luis Montenegro.
Upon his arrival at the 41st Congress of the PSD, which will take place this Saturday in Almada (Setubal district), the former Minister of Finance warned of a “very difficult situation” not only in the country, but also “at the European level”, pointing out that “ happened a few days ago in the Netherlands,” with a victory for the far right.
“And therefore we cannot ignore the signs given to us, and the signs given to us are that we are not living in a time of radicalism, but in a time of moderation, because it is from moderation that comes the cooperation of everyone and what is necessary to develop this country.” , defended Manuela Ferreira Leite, speaking to reporters.
Asked whether it would be added value if the PSD formed an electoral coalition for the March legislative elections, Manuela Ferreira Leite replied: “I don’t know if it would be added value, it was possible and I think it is.” it would be useful, and if it is impossible and useless, this is the decision of the party.”
Regarding the party’s future, if it loses the legislative elections, Ferreira Leite stated that “nothing is decisive for the PSD and the PSD can never be eliminated” because, according to him, “it has its own identity, its own history, it has your future.”
“What will happen and the result of the elections is what the Portuguese and voters will decide. The future and life of the SDP will not change as a result of one election. If people realize their options are different, I say just look at what’s happening around the world and see if that’s what you want,” he said.
