The South Central Administrative Court has ruled in favor of a police officer who was sacked in 2014 following a disciplinary process in which an agent from the Special Operations Group (GOE) was found to have stolen €15 and a pack of tobacco from a colleague. The theft was captured on video. The agent, who was on a mission at the Portuguese Embassy in Guinea-Bissau, confessed, claiming that he was the creditor of the amount and should return the money.
The policeman challenged this decision, and in 2019 the Lisbon Administrative Court overturned the decision. In May of this year, the South Central Administrative Court, although it found that “the agent seriously violated the duties arising from the official functions of the police,” ruled that “the disciplinary punishment of dismissal as a result of committing the crime of theft is not legally permissible.” simple”.
