More than 80 Spanish newspapers sue the owner of Facebook and WhatsApp

More than 80 Spanish newspapers have filed lawsuits against the Meta platform, owner of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. World.

The company is accused of unfair competition in the advertising market. According to the media that filed the lawsuit, 100% of Meta’s advertising revenue was obtained illegally.

Using the personal data of platform users without their consent allowed the company to offer the sale of advertising space on the market on the basis of an illegally obtained competitive advantage.

According to AMI President José Holi Martínez de Salazar, Meta’s actions threaten the sustainability of the media, “fundamental to the country’s democracy.”
