Chega will hold his parliamentary days on Tuesday and Wednesday in Matosinhos, a month before the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic, with the aim of preparing the tasks of the next legislature.
In a conversation with Lusa, parliamentary leader Chegi recalled that “parliamentary work is not yet completed” and that since parliament will only be dissolved on January 15, the party has “the right to hold these parliamentary days.”
The theme of these conferences will be “challenges for the next legislature”, and the two days of conferences, which will take place at a hotel in Matosinhos (District of Porto), will be filled with discussions on issues of justice, economic growth and health.
Chegi President Andre Ventura will be responsible for the opening and closing of the days.
The 12 deputies of the Assembly of the Republic will be joined by those elected by the Azores and Madeira, the leader of the parliament noted, believing that “this gives the party the unity that exists.”
“We will have two days to talk about the problems of the country that are transversal for the whole society,” he said, considering this an opportunity “even to formulate a work plan between the entire parliamentary group on the continent and other deputies.” .
“We think it’s very important to have this combination,” he said.
Pedro Pinto noted that “Chega is preparing his election program” and that justice reform, addressing health problems and the country’s economic growth “are the three flags” of the party.
Pedro Pinto also highlighted the choice of holding these parliamentary days in the north of the country, saying that Porto is an area to which Chega is “firmly committed” because “every election has been accompanied by some difficulties.”
Despite this, the parliamentary leader believes that “the party is growing” in this area, “and therefore attention is also being paid to the parliamentary days in Porto.”
On Tuesday, the sessions will begin with speeches by President Chegi and MP Rita Matias, followed by a panel discussion on “The Justice Reform Portugal Needs”, which will feature a speech by lawyer Nuno Gonçalves da Cunha, a lawyer and university professor. Joao Pacheco de Amorim, lawyer and parliamentary adviser Cristina Rodriguez and lawyer Paulo Ramalheira Teixeira.
There will be another debate on Tuesday about Portugal’s “growth solution” with economist Luis Maia, manager Mario Lima and MPs Rui Afonso and Filipe Melo.
On Thursday, a day dedicated to health, the first discussion will be on the “governance model of the National Health Service” with the participation of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CESPU Antonio Almeida Díaz, Dr. Palhares Delgado and Mario Ferreirinha Cayetano Nora, Vice President. -President of the General Assembly of the Association “Convergence of Integrated Responsibility Centers”.
After another discussion on the topic “Health crisis, causes and solutions” with the participation of health professionals, followed by a discussion on the topic “Career crisis in the NHS” with representatives of the Independent Union of Medical Auxiliaries and the Union of Administrative Health Workers, the Doctors’ Union prehospital emergency medical care and the Union of Dentists.
Pedro Pinto noted that “many representatives of civil society” would take part in these days and said that these unions are not affiliated with the trade union federation that Chega announced he would promote, called Solidarity.
“They are independent, they are from other unions who have decided to be in this group and who we warmly welcome,” he said, arguing that Chega is “a party open to society” and that in the past there were “people who Parliamentarians not associated with the party attended the Chegi conference.”
