Ventura Prefers Trump Win But Says No Candidate Is ‘Best America Could Have’

Chega leader Andre Ventura said Wednesday that he prefers Donald Trump to win the North American presidential election, but believes that neither Republican nor Democrat Kamala Harris are “the best that America can have.”

“I would vote for Donald Trump, but none of the candidates […] “I think, frankly, this is the best America could have had. And I think America could have done better,” he said, noting that “politics is what it is” and “there are only two candidates who can win.”

At a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Lisbon, leader Chegi said he “would prefer Donald Trump to win” the November elections.

“Not because of the person, but because everything that Kamala Harris represents is everything that we don’t stand for in the world,” he explained, adding, “Kamala Harris, on immigration, on corruption, on economic growth, supporting companies, is everything that we don’t understand what this country should be. That’s why I would rather have that, frankly. [uma vitória de Trump]saying that none of them seem to me to be the best that America has to offer”

Regarding the future of relations between the United States and Europe after the November presidential elections, André Ventura said he had Republican guarantees that even if Donald Trump wins, not only Atlanticism will continue to be a priority. Like NATO, like Portugal, it will continue to have a special and privileged relationship with the United States of America.”

President Chegi said that North Americans see Portugal “as a country of great interest, and this will not change with the possible victory of Donald Trump.”
