The Formula One (F1) World Championship will stage six sprint races on the 2024 calendar, two of which will take place at circuits that have never hosted the smaller races – China and Miami, the championship organizer announced on Tuesday.
The Chinese Grand Prix, which takes place on April 21, 2024 and returns to motorsport’s top discipline after a five-year absence, will even host the first sprint race of the next world championship, followed by Miami. scheduled for May 5th.
Austria, with its Grand Prix on June 30, USA (October 20), Brazil (November 3) and Qatar (December 1), will be the other four 2024 World Championship events that will feature sprint racing.
This type of racing, introduced in Formula 1 in 2021 and in which the top eight classifications score points for the World Cup, will be held “on tracks that favor overtaking and provide balanced and fun racing”, according to the championship organizer .
