About a month ago, the Arbitration Council (AC) took a number of measures affecting the salary income of judges, following dissatisfaction with the accumulation of serious errors in the first phase of the season.
According to the Record newspaper, Fontelas Gomes, CA’s president, has started by cutting back on travel abroad to officiate games in the Saudi, Cypriot and Greek leagues, which typically fetch generous sums. However, this ban has now been lifted.
The judges were also told that either the quality of service had improved or CA, after two serious errors, had gone further by reducing the fixed amount awarded monthly by 10%. A judge can receive a maximum of 2,500 euros under this article.
These measures will be combined with the so-called “trip to the jar.” In other words, by not being assigned to matches, referees no longer receive match bonuses.
