The chairman of the board of directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte, Ana Paula Martins, has resigned from her position, the institution, which includes the Santa Maria and Pulido Valente hospitals, announced this Monday.
This news was published by the Observador newspaper and confirmed by the Central Hospitalar University of Lisbon Norte (CHULN) in a statement saying that “after deep personal reflection, the President of CHULN understands that the mandate for which it was assigned at the beginning of 2023 ends with the closure of the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte and the creation of ULS. [Unidade Local de Saúde] and that he has no right to head this new body.”
Ana Paula Martins confirmed this Monday that she will not put forward a candidacy for the presidency of the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Santa Maria, a new organizational model that, from January 1, 2024, will unite the Santa Maria and Pulido Valente hospitals with care. Primary health care centers of the Group of Health Centers of the North and West of Lisbon (Mafra).
CHULN emphasizes in its statement that “Ana Paula Martins categorically denies that this decision is based on any differences with the executive management of SNS, to whom she is grateful for all the institutional cooperation during her mandate, which ends at the end of this year.” .
The President of CHULN emphasizes that she will remain in her post and ensure the regular functioning of the institution until the appointment of the management team of ULS Santa Maria.
Ana Paula Martins, former president of the Order of Pharmacists, took office on February 1 this year as president of the CHULN board of directors, which includes physician Ruy Tato Mariño, clinical director, José Abrantes, nursing director, and executive members Andre Ferreira and Catarina Baptista.
The board of directors was proposed by the chief executive of the National Health Service, Fernando Araujo, and appointed by order of the members of the government responsible for the areas of health and finance for a three-year term.
