Parks and monuments in Sintra will have free entry on Sundays and public holidays for residents of Portugal.

Parks and monuments managed by Parques de Sintra will have free entry on Sundays and public holidays from 2 January 2024 for all citizens living in Portugal, the company announced today.

According to the company, monuments such as the national palaces of Sintra, Queluz and Pena, the Montserrat Palace, the Countess d’Edla’s chalet, the Muros Castle and the Capuchin Monastery will be covered.

Currently, residents of Sintra can visit these parks and monuments for free on Sundays, but from January 2 this measure will be extended to all residents throughout the country and will also be available on public holidays.

According to the company, from the beginning of next year new functions will be introduced into the ticket system: visitors who purchase tickets online at least three days in advance will receive a 15% discount.

Booking dates are also now available for all monuments that can be automatically rescheduled.

Only Pena National Palace retains its current date and time reservation system, although the number of daily visitors has dropped by about 15%.

“This package of measures, accompanied by an update to tariffs that have not been revised for about ten years, aims to improve operational efficiency, avoid queues, ensure an improved quality of visits and preserve the sustainability of the heritage. and the company,” emphasized Parques de Sintra.

Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua is a company with exclusively public capital, whose shareholders are the General Directorate of Treasury and Finance (representing the state), the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, Turismo de Portugal and the Chamber of the Municipality of Sintra.

Over the past ten years, the areas managed by the company (Penha Park and National Palace, National Palaces of Sintra and Queluz, Chalet da Condessa d’Edla, Castelo dos Muros, Palace and Gardens of Montserrat, Convento dos Caposo and Portuguese Equestrian School art) received about 25 million visits.
