Golden State Warriors basketball player Draymond Green has been suspended indefinitely by the North American Basketball League (NBA) after attacking Jusuf Nurkic of the Phoenix Suns, the NBA said on Wednesday.
Green, 33, a four-time NBA champion with the Warriors and the subject of a litany of conduct violations throughout his career, had already been suspended for five games in November for shaking the neck of France’s Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“This decision takes into account Greene’s history of unsportsmanlike conduct,” the NBA said in a statement, adding that the player “will have to comply with certain conditions imposed by the NBA in order to return to play.”
Draymond Green brutally hit Jusuf Nurkic on Tuesday and was promptly ejected by referees following his team’s 119-116 loss to the Suns.
“It’s not my style, but I apologize to Yusuf. I didn’t want to hit him. I wanted to make a gesture to call a foul because he grabbed my thigh, so I raised my hands and touched him (…) I know my intentions and I called for the foul correctly,” Green explained after the match.
The two-time U.S. Olympic champion at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 has already been disqualified for stepping on Domantas Sabonis, hitting a teammate in practice or after an altercation with LeBron James in the 2016 Finals.
