Portuguese Nemias Queta’s visit to Sao Paulo drew dozens of fans

Nehemias Queta met with dozens of fans at the Portuguese Consulate General in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the country where the Portuguese basketball player is holding a series of promotional and marketing events.

At a meeting organised by the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (Aicep) and the Portuguese start-up Hoopers, which is responsible for the visit to Brazil, the Boston Celtics athlete posed for photos and signed autographs for fans, but chose not to speak to reporters.

Before the consulate reception, Nehemias Queta visited Instituto Green, a social project for children on the outskirts of São Paulo, and, at Hoopers’ invitation, attended an autograph session at the NBA Store.

Hoopers is promoting basketball on a platform that connects athletes, fans and brands. The new Portuguese company also has a social program that has already rehabilitated 40 sports courts, most of which are in Portugal (35), four in Brazil and one in Spain.

This Wednesday, his last day in Brazil, the Boston Celtics athlete is expected to watch the soccer match between Palmeiras (coached by Portuguese Abel Ferreira) and Flamengo at the Allianz Park stadium, also in Sao Paulo.

Nehemias Queta joined Boston for the 2023-24 season and won a championship in his first season, after two years with the Sacramento Kings (2021-22 and 2022-23), who selected him 39th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

On a Celtics team full of great players, Nehemias Queta had little room to shine, was rarely in the rotation and was underused in the playoffs, but was always highly praised by coach Joe Mazzulla.

The Portuguese star played in just three of the Celtics’ 19 playoff games, including one in the finals, where he entered with 5.25 minutes remaining as Boston lost to the Mavericks by 45 points, the only loss of the series (84-122).

In the short time he had in the “final”, Nemias Kveta scored two points, converting the only shot he attempted and also managed to make a tackle.

He previously played in the first two games of the conference semifinals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a 120-95 win and a 94-118 loss with the games already decided. He added two points and three rebounds in eight minutes.

However, after signing a guaranteed contract with the Celtics on April 8, he was one of Boston’s 15 playoff picks and was always on the bench.

Playing in three playoff games, the first in history, Nehemias Kveta has 31 goals in the 2023-24 season, as well as in 28 regular-season games, with almost all of them (24) ending in triumphs for the Massachusetts team.

During the regular season, the 24-year-old Portuguese national team player averaged 5.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 11.9 minutes.
