Manager Steve Cooper, who guided Nottingham Forest into the English Football League in 2022, was sacked on Tuesday following poor results that left the team in 17th place after 17 rounds played.
“Cooper leaves the City Ground after playing a key role in Forest’s return to the Premier League, firmly entrenching himself in the club’s rich history after leading the Reds back to England’s top flight,” the club wrote on their website.
Steve Cooper arrived at the club in September 2021, promoted them to the top flight in 2022 and now sees his run completed after a disastrous start to the season with just three wins.
“Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his outstanding contribution to our club. Forest’s return to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain a landmark moment in the club’s history,” praised English club owner Evangelos Marinakis.
“Loyalty and commitment” were also emphasized as the 44-year-old coach said goodbye.
A number of English media are pointing to Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo, who has already played for Wolverhampton and Tottenham, as his successor.
