The Azores airline SATA Air Açores has had its plane grounded on the island of Flores for almost two weeks with a breakdown, but guarantees that it has managed to provide all scheduled flights.
“Despite the inherent limitations, the airline managed to maintain its planned flight scheduling,” SATA said in a written response to Lusa.
The 80-passenger Bombardier Q400 aircraft was stranded on the island of Flores due to a breakdown on December 7.
In response to a question about the delay in repairs to the aircraft, SATA said that “unfavorable weather conditions prevailing in the archipelago made it difficult to carry out planned procedures and led to the postponement of repairs.”
The airline did not provide a date for the aircraft’s return to service.
SATA Air Açores’ inter-island fleet currently consists of seven aircraft: five Q400s and two Q200s, with a capacity of 37 passengers.
When asked about fleet renewal, the airline said that “SATA Air Açores has established a working group to study” replacing its old fleet, specifically two Bombardier Q200 aircraft.
