One person killed and five injured in a collision with a tractor in Beja

This Thursday, in a rural area of ​​the municipality of Beja, a tractor collision killed one person and injured five others. According to the fire commander, the victims are Nepalese agricultural workers.

In contact with the Lusa agency, the head of the fire service of Beja, Pedro Barahona, said that the accident occurred in an olive grove located near Monte da Corte Piorno, in the geographical area of ​​União de Fregesias Salvada e Quintos, municipality of Beja. .

According to him, the victims are “all men aged about 30, of Nepalese nationality.”

Pedro Barahona clarified the information about the severity of the injuries, adding that the condition of one of the slightly wounded became serious after being examined by rescuers.

According to him, in addition to one death, three were seriously and two slightly injured as a result of the accident.

A source from the Beja territorial command of the NTC, who was also contacted by Lusa, said the accident occurred when, while harvesting olives in an agricultural area, “a tractor switched off and ran over workers.”

The same source said it was an industrial accident and ACT inspectors were called to the scene and are investigating the incident.

According to the subregional command for emergencies and civil protection of Baixo Alentejo, the alert about the incident was transmitted to the authorities at 10:35.

The victims were taken to the emergency department of Beja Hospital, a Civil Defense source said, adding that the body of the fatal victim will be taken to the morgue of the same department of the hospital.

Firefighters from Beja and Serpa, the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) and the GNR were mobilized in the relief operations, with a total of 15 personnel supported by seven vehicles, including an ambulance and resuscitation vehicle (VMER).
