The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) ended 2023 with a record number of federation players: 218,486, 224 more than at the end of last season, the organization announced this Sunday.
Until last Wednesday, December 27, the FPF registered its new maximum number of federated practitioners, and the organization assures that this number will continue to grow throughout the current season thanks to the registration of beach soccer athletes.
These figures will also include recreation and leisure specialists, who numbered just over seven thousand last summer (7,122), and these records are only updated at the end of each sports season, a federal source explained to Luse.
There are currently 202,120 male athletes and 16,366 female athletes in the FPF, with football being the dominant sport with 179,518 registered, followed by futsal (38,913) and soccer (55).
The associations of Porto, Lisbon and Braga are the regional structures with the largest number of registered athletes, with seniors being the most numerous by age (40,565), followed by children under 13 (33,525).
The plan for the end-to-end development of the FPF modality “Futebol2030”, among other things, is aimed at the 400 thousand members of the federation.
