The Trade Union of Justice Workers announced an overtime strike

The Union of Judicial Workers (SFJ) announced this Friday that it has submitted a new overtime strike notice to begin the strike on Monday and for an indefinite period.

According to the union, the strike will take place every day from 12:30 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 9:00 the next day.

At stake, SFJ emphasizes, is “the recognition and value of work carried out outside working hours, which guarantees a fair pension regime”, as well as “recognition of the health risks for a career that works every day with people suffering from infectious diseases, in particular conducts inquiries and initial interrogations of detainees, without any conditions.”

Also at stake, according to the union, is the beginning of the negotiation process to calculate the time during which the careers of judicial officials will be frozen, the introduction of all occupied positions to competition on the basis of replacement/selection, the strengthening of bailiffs in sufficient numbers to guarantee their normal and regular functioning and entitlement to leave under general law.

The union, led by António Marsal, says that since this is a strike at a time when judicial departments are closed, there is “no place to present a proposal for minimum services due to their lack.”

“As the court secretariats are closed during these periods, the security and maintenance of the premises and equipment is ensured by the specialists responsible for these functions,” SFJ reports.

The year 2023 was marked by long strikes by the judiciary, divided between two unions: the SFJ and the Union of Justice Workers (SOJ).
