In the town of Alcacovas, in the municipality of Viana do Alentejo (Évora), the PNR discovered 820 kilograms of allegedly stolen cork, with three men accused as the alleged perpetrators of the crime.
In a statement released this Monday, the National Republican Guard (NRG) reported that 820 kilograms of cork were discovered on Friday through the territorial post of Viana do Alentejo, belonging to the territorial command of Évora.
The suspects and accused range from 22 to 61 years old, the security forces added.
“After patrolling, Guard troopers located a passenger vehicle in motion that was carrying a large amount of traffic jam, limiting the driver’s visibility,” the report said.
PPR officers then approached the car to “inspect it” and during the police investigation, the military discovered “that the three suspects were in possession of 820 kilograms of cork, the origin of which they could not substantiate”, and therefore they confiscated this material, as well as automobile.
“In addition, six protocols on administrative offenses were also drawn up for violations stipulated by the traffic rules,” the guard added.
In addition to the accused suspects, the facts were submitted to the Court of Justice of Évora.
