Air carrier TAP this Sunday considered that there was “constructive progress” in negotiations with the National Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SNPVAC) and that it indicated improvements, but sent details to the general meeting on Monday.
In an internal statement released this Sunday and sent to Lusa, TAP’s executive committee welcomes the “constructive and very significant progress in negotiations with SNPVAC over the past 24 hours.”
Lusa contacted crew union president Ricardo Penarroyas, who said the proposal presented by TAP “has improvements” but declined to provide further details, citing a general meeting of workers scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. :30 am.
“The workers themselves decide whether to continue to strike or cancel it,” he said.
On the airline’s side, the executive committee expects the latest talks to be a “last effort” to avoid the January 25-31 strike.
Crew members gathered at Thursday’s general meeting rejected for the second time the TAP proposal, which met 12 of SNPVAC’s 14 requirements, in an attempt to avoid another strike.
On Thursday, TAP announced that the crew strike would result in the cancellation of 1,316 flights and a direct loss of 48 million euros.
TAP is in talks with unions about new agreements with companies while it is the target of a restructuring plan that includes wage cuts.
It should be recalled that this union led the strike of TAP crew members on 8 and 9 December, which resulted in the airline canceling 360 flights earlier, and the total damage is estimated at eight million euros.
Last Tuesday, the airline’s executive president said in a message to employees to whom Lusa had access that TAP was going to invest 48 million euros in employee benefits “to mitigate pay cuts”, having recorded one of the “biggest revenues in its history” last year. stories”.
The president of the crew union told Lusa that workers’ feelings of dissatisfaction are “enormous” but he is keeping the door open to dialogue with the company.
