Astronauts trapped in space for three months may take longer to return to Earth than previously thought

An unmanned SpaceX Falcon rocket exploded violently on Wednesday, leaving two NASA astronauts trapped in space for three months with no end in sight, a report says Daily mail.

Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore, who launched on June 5 and spent just eight days in space, were stuck aboard the Boeing Starliner spacecraft on the International Space Station for nearly three months due to technical problems.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the Falcon 9 explosion, which could delay the planned Sept. 24 launch of the Crew Dragon and, consequently, the return of two astronauts.

Another solution is to wait SpaceX’s new Dragon capsule could take them home, but not until February 2025, as NASA wants to make sure the rocket is in perfect condition before transporting the crew. The length of the investigation is unclear.

They are scheduled to return on the Space X Crew Dragon spacecraft, which is set to carry astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov to the International Space Station, according to NASA.

“We hate SpaceX. We talk bad about them all the time, and now they’re trying to ‘get away with it,'” a Boeing employee who asked to remain anonymous told New York Post.

Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft is expected to return to Earth on September 6 without a crew on board.
