Serious injuries after attack in Leiria nightclub filed complaint

Two seriously injured in an attack by a group of 15-20 people early on the morning of the 1st at a nightclub in Leiria have already been discharged and have filed a complaint, a PSP source told Lusa.

In a written response to Lusa, PSP Leiria District Commander Superintendent Domingos Antunes said the affected foreigners have already been discharged from hospitals and have filed a formal complaint with PSP facilities.

“The victims were sent for a forensic examination, the results of which are still awaited, to assess the specific nature and extent of their injuries,” he added.

According to the person in charge, “violations of physical integrity at the Sinalheiro roundabout, next to the Mandarim nightclub, were unofficially detected by the PSP through the public CCTV system of the city of Leiria.”

The police were immediately called to the scene.

The photographs will help identify everyone involved in the incident, the commander also admitted.

Domingos Antunes said the victims were near the doors of the nightclub but did not enter “because the establishment was closed to the public and open only for private events.”

The victims then “challenged and were subsequently assaulted by a group of individuals who were also present outside the establishment.”
