The Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned the one-game ban from the Dragau Stadium

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD) has overturned a one-game ban from the Dragao stadium, three months after the punishment imposed by the Disciplinary Board (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on FC Porto.

According to the decision made on Tuesday and dated January 2, the arbitration panel upheld the appeal of the “blue and white”, the preventive measure of which had already been taken by this jurisdictional body on October 20, 2023, allowing the First League Club to continue to hold matches on its site.

The CD FPF punished FC Porto with a duel behind closed doors plus a fine of 5,610 euros for “qualified failure to fulfill other duties” and also imposed a fine of 3,060 euros due to “serious attacks on spectators and other participants.” .

The facts date back to August 14, 2023, when the Dragons defeated newly promoted Moreirense (2-1) in the first round of the 2023/24 Spanish league.

According to the CD FPF ruling, firecrackers thrown into the north stand of the Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas stadium in Moreira de Conegos, where Dragons supporters were present, injured two children. , for whom they required medical assistance, which led to the arrest of a PPR supporter.

The Blue and Whites, third in the competition after 16 rounds with 35 points, five behind isolated leaders Sporting and four below national champions Benfica, have already been subject to two match suspensions at the Do Stadium. Dragon in July 2022.

At the time, the FPF CD justified this punishment plus a fine of 25,245 euros with “qualified dereliction of duty” and “throwing objects without influencing the game” during a reception against Sporting (2-2). , in the 22nd round of the first league of the 2021/22 season.

Defending that these facts were caused “solely” by the behavior of elements outside its structure, FC Porto appealed to the TAD, which took the precaution of suspending the measure originally adopted by the federation body.

Sergio Conceiço’s side will play at home again on Sunday, ending the first round of I League with a home game against fourth-placed Sporting Braga on matchday 17.
