The National Maritime Authority (ANM) said this Wednesday that it is tracking plastic particles washed ashore in Spain, trying to anticipate possible movement to Portugal and preparing a contingency plan to remove the material.
“The maritime authorities, in collaboration with the Hydrographic Institute of the Navy, are monitoring the situation with the plastic washed ashore in Galicia and carrying out drift calculations in order to, based on wind, swell and currents, try to know as soon as possible the probability of arrival in Portugal is possible,” explained Luse of the ANM and the Navy.
On the other hand, AMN is “preparing a contingency plan as part of the Mar Limpo plan to remove plastic particles if they reach the Portuguese coast.”
