A collision between two cars this Thursday resulted in one death and one minor injury on the A8 motorway (A8) in Bombarral, Leiria district, the local fire chief said.
Pedro Lourenço told Lusa that the accident killed one person, a 50-year-old man, whose body had to be pulled out.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was not considered to be in critical condition and was taken to the emergency department in Torres Vedras at the Centro Hospitalar do Oeste.
The accident occurred near the Bombarral toll booth on the A8 (Lisbon/Leiria) motorway in the north-south direction.
After the collision, one of the cars caught fire.
The accident occurred at 18:40, traffic on Highway No. 8 was limited in the same direction.
There were 23 first responders and 10 vehicles at the scene, including the Caldas da Rainha ambulance and intensive care unit, two ambulances, a recovery vehicle and a fire truck from the Bombarral firefighters.
State Police officers were also at the scene of the incident to determine the cause of the incident.
