According to the Communications Observatory, cited by the magazine VisionTikTok is used by 26% of Portuguese. This is a social network with the largest number of young people with lower incomes and less schooling (49% have education up to 9th grade).
Although users’ political positioning is led by the center (39.1%), followed by the left (21.1%) and only then the right (13.5%), 26% have no political position and are therefore more vulnerable to consumption political messages.
In this area, the radical right is clearly in the lead – Andre Ventura, leader of Chega, has 177 thousand followers, followed by Rita Matias from the same party (31,800), and only then come Carlos Moedas (PSD, 12,900) and Joana Mortagua (BE , from 10,700).
The various profiles associated with political parties are also an example of the “strength” of the radical right on TikTok: Chega has 81 thousand followers, BE (radical left) has 23,800.
