Roberto Martinez confirms three more preparatory games for Euro 2024, all on Portuguese soil

Coach Roberto Martinez said on Tuesday that Portugal would play three more Euro 2024 preparatory games on Portuguese soil, adding that a training camp in March would serve to monitor players “on the books”.

“I can confirm that there are two games [primeiro com a Suécia, em Guimarães, dia 21 de março]. I really like the stadium, I saw the under-21s play, the atmosphere was very good. We will confirm in the next few weeks [o outro adversário para o dia 25 ou 26]. After this we will have three more friendly games. [em junho] in Portugal before flying to Germany,” the Spanish coach told reporters.

The Quinas first team selector spoke to the media on the sidelines of an event held at the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, and explained that the March internship will serve to “look at the players who are on the lists.”

“March has a different goal: to try to evaluate our players so that they are included in the list of 23 players for the European Championships. We want to win. When we are on the field, we have to play well and give our all to our players.” “The goal in March is to look at the players who are on the lists and who we haven’t seen so that we can use them at the European Championships,” he explained.

Finally, he commented on the goal of Sporting’s Nuno Santos, who was nominated for the Puskas Award but did not win the award at the FIFA gala in London on Monday.

“I like group prizes. Football is a team sport. [Prémios individuais] very subjective. Nuno Santos’ goal was impressive and you don’t have to have a prize to be rich and finish high,” he concluded.

At Euro 2024, Portugal, the 2016 champions, will face Turkey, the Czech Republic and the winner of Play-off Path C (Georgia, Luxembourg, Greece or Kazakhstan), debuting in the competition against the Czechs on 18 June. , in Leipzig.

After the first meeting with the Czech Republic, Portugal will face the Turks on June 22 in Dortmund before closing the group stage on June 26 in Gelsenkirchen against the opponent who wins the Path C playoffs scheduled for March.

The 2024 European Championships will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14.
