The PSD of Loule this Wednesday withdrew political confidence from the deputy Rui Cristina, elected by the Faro circle, which demands his immediate resignation from the post of councilor elected by the party in the Algarve chamber, a committee of the Social Democratic Council announced on Wednesday.
In a statement signed by PSD President Lolé Claudio Lima, members of the local party structure expressed “surprise” at the news of Rui Cristina’s intention to leave the party and become an unregistered deputy by the end of the elections. the legislative body and assured that with this “unilateral” act the parliamentarian ceases all party activities.
“After being surprised on January 22, 2024 by the information received in the media and social networks about his resignation from the PSD, it was unanimously decided to deprive Rui Cristina of political confidence, demanding his immediate resignation from the position of councilor, for which he was elected from the PSD,” Social Democratic Council took his position.
The same source stressed that following the Algarve MP’s decision to leave the party, “any and all ties remaining between Rui Cristina and the Social Democratic Party will cease.”
The previous president of the municipality of Loule from the PSD, elected as deputy of the Faro district in 2019 and again in 2022, was a candidate for the presidency of this municipality in 2021, having been defeated by the socialist Vitor Aleixo.
On Monday, PSD MP Rui Cristina left the party and became an unregistered MP for the rest of the legislature, saying Luis Montenegro’s leadership was only concerned with “internal calculations”.
“It is obvious that the current leadership of the PSD is more concerned with internal adjustments of accounts, imposing egos, which in fact do not take on serious obligations to the party, only interested in a permanent quarrel for “power”” This is stated in a letter sent by Rui Cristina to the general secretary of the PSD , to which Lusa had access.
Rui Cristina was announced as the fifth candidate on the PSD list for the Faro district in the early legislative elections on March 10, led by Social Democratic vice-president Miguel Pinto Luz, after finishing second in the 2022 elections.
When asked by Lusa about the possibility of joining the candidate lists, Chegi, still an SDP MP with more than 20 years of active activism in the party, replied that “the future requires thought and reflection.”
Rui Cristina is the second PSD parliamentarian to leave the party in recent weeks, following António Malo de Abreu, who was confirmed this weekend as Cega’s candidate outside Europe after previously turning down the opportunity.
In an email sent to Social Democratic MPs, Rui Cristina also said she intends to end the current legislature as an unregistered MP, saying that the political conditions for continued membership and work in the parliamentary group have not been met.
