The XIII Congress of the Free begins in Porto with a debate on the electoral program for the March legislative elections as the main item on the agenda and ends on Sunday with a speech by founder Rui Tavares.
The meeting of the party’s highest body, which will not elect new bodies, will take place at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library in Porto and also aims to present the leaders of the Livre list in the March 10 legislative elections.
According to the program, the speeches will be followed by the presentation of the first version of the election program, which, according to Livre’s official source, was coordinated by party leaders and included input from activists as well as civil society.
Party members and supporters submitted more than 100 proposed changes that will be discussed Saturday afternoon. The proposed date for the next Livre congress will also be put to a vote on this day.
In the middle of the day, the single deputy Rui Tavares, together with the Livre delegation, will attend the demonstration for the right to housing, organized by Plataforma Casa Para Viver, which will take place in various parts of the country.
On Sunday, the voting results for the final version of the electoral program will be announced, followed by about three hours of speeches by all the leaders of the lists for the Livre legislative elections.
The person responsible for the closure will be the founder and head of the Lisbon list, Rui Tavares.
The last major meeting of the Livre took place about two years ago in Coimbra, and for the first time two lists of candidates for the leadership were presented. At this congress, the list of Rui Tavares received 67% of the votes, and the historian was elected representative of the party, a position he shares with leader Teresa Mota.
This time, members and supporters of the Livre will not elect new internal bodies, but the focus will be on the March legislative elections, in which Rui Tavares has already said he wants to elect a parliamentary group, but two deputies are “not enough.”
In an interview with Lusa published on Friday, Tavares showed that he is ready to join a possible left-wing government and put forward some proposals that Livret will have on his electoral platform, such as the goal of setting the national minimum wage at 80%. the same thing.
