Ventura praises PR veto of decrees on choosing a neutral name and gender self-determination in schools

President Chegi considered this Monday that the President of the Republic was right to veto the decrees on the choice of a neutral name and the measures to be taken by schools on the self-determination of gender identity and its expression.

“The President of the Republic did well [Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa] which returned this law to the Assembly of the Republic, while the Assembly of the Republic, with the absolute majority of the PS, will no longer be able to approve it,” André Ventura said this Monday.

The Chega leader, speaking to journalists at a press conference at the Chega/Azores headquarters in Ponta Delgada, on the island of San Miguel, noted that “even after he drew attention to the issue of neutral names and the impact that it will have in third parties, in the free development of the personalities of those involved and in the role that parents should play in this process, the PS, hostage to the far left and with the desire to provoke the dominant culture, wanted to move forward without consultation, without a majority, without support for such a measure from the outside civil society.”

“By returning the law to the Assembly of the Republic, the President of the Republic makes it clear that this rule will not take effect in this legislative body and makes it clear that only a new majority will be able to correct it and ultimately approve it,” he said.

According to this decision, Chega undertakes in the next legislature to “remove these two diplomas once and for all from the Portuguese legislative space.”

“I would therefore like to thank the President of the Republic for the decisive role he has played in this matter, preserving the core values and supporting the values that should guide the educational community, as well as our policy in matters of education, that of human value and self-determination, but also of responsibility , inclusion in the culture to which we belong, in the matrix of respect for our cultural matrix,” Ventura said.

Ventura continued, saying it was a victory “not for the right, but first and foremost for the schools and the educational community.”

According to President Chegi, educational institutions that “despite the legislative process, decided to move forward on this issue without the law coming into force” should cancel measures already in place, such as bathrooms or mixed changing rooms. .

This Monday, the President of the Republic vetoed the decrees of Parliament on the choice of a neutral name and the measures that must be taken by schools to implement the law establishing self-determination of gender identity and its expression.

These two vetoes were announced through an entry on the official website of the President of the Republic on the Internet.

According to this note, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa vetoed the change in the naming regime, “considering that the decree does not guarantee balance with respect to the basic principle of personal freedom.”
