The technical union of the General Directorate of Reintegration and Prison Service (SinDGRSP) has submitted a petition to Parliament to sack the director general and other heads of the prison service, whom they accuse of breaking the law.
In the text of the petition “Save reintegration in Portugal”, posted on the official page of the Assembly of the Republic, the union states that “the General Directorate of Reintegration and Penitentiary Services (DGRSP) does not respect the laws, taking decisions that repeatedly contradict the rule of law and therefore the rule of law,” adding , that “lack of human resources is not and cannot be an excuse” for not complying with what is required by law.
“Despite consistent warnings from employees, periodic news in the media about the state of the state civil service facilities and constant court decisions, the current General Directorate insists on not solving problems, ostracizing employees, not promoting career revision, not providing working conditions (transport, equipment, computers, etc.), illegal distribution of tasks,” the trade union criticizes.
The text of the petition is reminiscent of a recent court decision that declared illegal a competition to recruit senior technicians who, being part of a general career, could not perform specific functions in the career of reintegration technicians and therefore receive In addition, the law provides only for these specific professions.
“The current management refuses to engage in dialogue with employee representatives. In this regard, it is obvious that it is impossible to maintain the functions of the current general director and other members of the management of the DSRSP, therefore the following applicants ask the guardians to resign from the positions they occupy,” the union concluded.
On Monday, the same union called a strike on February 23, demanding a career review, strengthening of human resources, the opening of a competition for promotions already approved by the Ministry of Finance, and the payment of additional burdens, risks and hardships.
On the same day, he organizes a demonstration in Lisbon in front of the DGRSP headquarters, where he intends to symbolically hand over his career in a coffin to the director general.
