Farmers from Baixo Mondego, concentrated in Coimbra since Thursday, began to demobilize after protesting at 17:00 after meeting via videoconference with the Minister of Agriculture and planning a meeting in the region next week.
A delegation of six farmers representing the protesters took part this Friday afternoon in a meeting via video conference that lasted more than two and a half hours with the Minister of Agriculture Maria do Seu Antunes, who declared her commitment to the progress of the protesters. construction of the Giraboros dam in Seia (Guarda region).
The government official also agreed to discuss specific local issues such as corn and rice harvests in Baixo Mondego during her visit to the region next week on a date to be announced.
João Grilo, a representative of the farmers’ movement who took part in the meeting, said that, according to the minister, Portugal, like France, also intends to renegotiate the European Union’s agreement with Mercosur, an issue that is also on the list of farmers’ demands.
