A protest by Spanish farmers near Fuentes de Onoro, Spain, is forcing the redirection of traffic flows in and out of Portugal through the Vilar-Formoso border, Guarda district, a GNR source confirmed to Lusa.
Farmers blocked traffic in both directions on two roads connecting the two countries: the E-80 motorway and the national N-620, near Fuentes de Oñoro.
According to GNR da Guarda, for those coming from Spain, traffic is diverted to Ciudad Rodrigo (Spain) towards the Portuguese border through the Aldeia Velha area in the municipality of Sabugal, then towards Sabugal, and from there follow the A23 or A25 motorway .
For those wishing to leave Portugal, traffic on the A25 motorway continues until the Almeida junction, then heads through Vilar Formoso, crosses the town and then heads towards the entrance to Spain at Aldea Velha.
Traffic was disrupted from 8 a.m. when farmers blocked roads with dozens of tractors and farm equipment, EFE news agency reported.
Farmers are demanding better conditions, similar to what happened in Portugal last week and in recent weeks in several European Union countries.
The protesters say they will support the protest on cross-border roads until they are heard by organizations.
