According to police and volunteers, around 50 operatives from the Judicial Police (PJ), GNR, firefighters and forest engineers are searching this Tuesday in Vilar de Perdizes, Montalegre, in search of a man who has been missing for almost a month.
João Manuel Teixeira Magalhães, known as Malayas, The 69-year-old from Chaves was reported missing on January 9 after traveling to Montalegre, during which time the only evidence was his car, which was found near Videferre, in Galicia, Spain.
A PJ source told Lusa that an operation is being carried out today in the border area of Vilar de Perdizes to find the missing former footballer Chavez or any clue, noting that efforts are also being made on the Spanish side.
The judiciary, which took over the investigation, said the vehicle has been analyzed and there is no sign of third party intervention in the matter.
The fire commander of Montalegre, Miguel Monteiro, said that the subregional command of Alto Tamega and Barroso asked his corporation to carry out an investigation in the Vilar de Perdizes area at the request of the joint venture.
“We are searching the area near the river, either north or south, to find any clue about the missing gentleman,” said Miguel Monteiro.
According to the commander, about 50 members of the joint venture, the Emergency Protection and Assistance Unit of the State People’s Republic (UEPS), firefighters and forest sappers are on the spot.
The SP said that the operation may last for several more days.
