Trophy winner Porto and Sporting reach the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup

Trophy winners Porto and Sporting will travel this Wednesday to the Santa Clara and União de Leiria stadiums, the only survivors in the II Liga, for the start of the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup.

The Dragons, who have already won the competition 19 times, including in the last two seasons, continue to defend the trophy against the Azoreans, who are competing at this stage for the second time and are chasing a semi-final debut. .

The meeting between the third-placed team in Liga I and the leaders of the secondary division will start at 15:00 (16:00 in Lisbon), followed by Sporting taking on União Leiria, scheduled for 20:45.

The Lisbon side, second in Liga I, two points behind Benfica but having played one game less, have already lifted the trophy 17 times, while Unian Leiria, 13th in Liga II, have the best record . in their presence in the final of the 2002/03 season, in which they were defeated by Porto (1–0).

There will be two more quarter-final matches on Thursday, only between first division teams: Visela will face Benfica, the competition’s record title holders with 26 trophies, and Vitória de Guimarães will face Gil Vicente.

The first leg of the semi-final will take place from 27 to 29 February, and the return leg from 2 to 4 April. The Portuguese Cup final will take place on May 26 at the National Stadium in Oeiras.
