Concentration of support for 44 police officers from the PSP Intervention Corps, who were discharged due to health reasons, was delayed due to internal meetings held on Thursday, the Union of Professional Police Officers (SPP/PSP) said.
The demonstration was planned for 8am on Thursday next to the Corps of Intervention (CI) installations, on Calçada da Ajuda, in Lisbon, but the gathering was postponed as internal meetings would be held to resolve the dismantling of the task force, which included 44 CI police officers belong and took sick leave last Sunday, the SPP president told Lusa.

In a statement issued this Wednesday, the national leadership of the Public Security Police reports that on February 4, 44 police officers belonging to the third CI task force, integrated into the Special Police Unit, were discharged for health reasons.
The PSP said that given the “unprecedented situation where 44 police officers from the task force were granted sick leave at the same time,” UEP Commander Luis Carrillo advocated opening an investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened.
According to the police, the commander of this PSP unit also decided to “destroy the third task force and distribute these police officers to the remaining IC task forces in Lisbon, reactivating the sixth task force” in order to “maintain the normal operational activities of the Intervention.” Frame”.
According to these security forces, the Intervention Corps is a reserve force ordered by the national director of the PSP, specially trained and intended for use in actions to maintain and restore public order and combat situations of concerted violence, as well as interaction with territorial commands in patrols actions.
Thus, “Police officers rendering services in this unit are subject to special responsibilities, particularly with regard to their conduct, preparedness, preparedness, attendance, poise, diligence in the performance of their duties and the quality of the work performed.”
The Professional Police Union speaks of “retaliation motivated by political pressure” and “unacceptable political interference,” noting that the victims in question were “for clinical reasons duly certified by a competent physician.”
According to the SPP, 44 police officers from the Intervention Corps, discharged for health reasons, were assigned to last Sunday’s First Football League game between Benfica and Gil Vicente, although the situation did not prevent the trial from taking place.
Several PSP police and GPR soldiers have been injured in recent days, although the platform representing the 11 unions and associations of these security forces does not suggest this is a form of protest.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister has ordered an urgent investigation by the Inspectorate General of Internal Administration into widespread and sudden medical absences reported by police officers.
PSP police officers and GNR soldiers are demanding payment of a mission allowance similar to what was done for PJ.
