PS promises to increase deductions for rental costs to 800 euros in 2028

In its election program, the PS plans to increase the IRS rent deductible by 50 euros every year until it reaches 800 euros in 2028, an official Socialist source told Lusa.

This measure comes after the PS approved an increase in the deduction for rental expenses from 502 to 600 euros last November as part of the discussion of the state budget for 2024.

The Secretary General of the PS presents this Sunday, at 17:00, at the Talia Theater in Lisbon, the party’s electoral program for the legislative elections of March 10, a document that was coordinated by the Socialist MP and former minister Alexandra Leitão.

Among the measures that should be included in this document and which Pedro Nuno Santos had already foreseen are the promise to extend the IRS to non-tertiary-educated youth, the extension of housing support for students dropped out of higher education to young people from the middle class and the implementation of the program to strengthen teams of psychologists in universities, school groups and medical centers.

At the end of January, the PS general secretary said that if he forms a government, he intends to abolish all tolls on the old free-to-user (SCUT) highways in the interior and the Algarve. expand the VAT exemption for electricity and increase the rate of 6% to the consumption of 3.4 million people. Continuing to talk about the social sphere, he also promised to exclude children’s income from the conditions for receiving solidarity benefits for older people.

Following the PS Congress, in early January, Pedro Nuno Santos announced his intention to launch a selective support program in a limited number of strategic areas with the potential to transform the economy, assuring that he wants to reform the sources of social security financing. , strengthen oral health in the NHS, expand medical careers and invest in equipment upgrades, and increase salaries for those entering the teaching profession.

In the strategic proposal that was elected Secretary General of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos advocated the gradual restoration of all frozen seniority in public administration, including in this principle the professional category of teachers.

On the financial side, PS is following the forecasts contained in the Stability Program presented by the Portuguese government in Brussels, although Pedro Nuno Santos has already made it clear that he intends to reduce the pace of debt reduction over the next few years.

The PS General Secretary accepted the new IRS cuts in the next legislature, but unlike the AD (Democratic Alliance), he rejected the IRC’s cross-cuts. On the other hand, the IRC proposed reducing taxes on companies’ autonomous vehicles by 20%.

On Saturday, newspaper Público reported that the PS’ election program envisages that family doctors could prescribe medicines, tests and examinations, eliminating the need for users to go to health centers and emergency hospitals, while newspaper Expresso on Friday said the Socialists want to expand free and universal access to preschool for all children aged three to six years.
