Fernando Marman, 60, and Norberto Luis Har, 70, Israeli-Argentine hostages held by Hamas since October 7, were released this Monday in Rafah, Gaza, during an overnight military operation to establish a temporary truce, according to the report Reuters.
The first image of the freed hostages with their families has been published. Fernando Marman appears with his sister Clara Marman, the companion of another freed hostage, Norberto Louis Jara.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Israeli military security forces Shin Bet and the special police unit in Rafah.
Hostages kidnapped by Hamas from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak on the first day of the conflict were trapped on the second floor of the building after it was bombed. They were part of a package of 250 Israelis abducted by the group on October 7.
The release of the hostages coincided with airstrikes that killed 67 Palestinians and injured dozens more in Rafah.
“We have been working on this operation for a long time,” said Israeli army spokesman Lt. Col. Richard Hecht. “We were waiting for the right conditions,” he added.
The Argentine government has already expressed gratitude for the release of Fernando Marman and Norberto Luis Jara.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, also said: “I salute our brave warriors for their courageous actions that led to the release” of the two hostages.
