Repsol launches investigation to establish causes of two-fatal accident in Sines

Repsol Polímeros will launch an investigation to investigate the causes of the accident that killed two workers of the service provider company in the Sines industrial complex in the Setúbal region this Monday.

In a statement sent to Lusa, the company regretted the death of two workers, aged 21 and 37, Brazilian citizens, and explained that they both belonged to the service provider company.

According to Repsol, “the accident occurred during scaffolding dismantling work” at the Sines plant complex at 4 p.m.

“Repsol has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident,” the company said, adding that it is “in constant contact with the service provider company to offer all its support.”

A source from the Workplace Conditions Authority (ACT) said two men died today in an industrial accident at the Repsol Polímeros plant in Sines, falling from a “height of more than 30 metres”.

According to the same source, two workers “were dismantling the structure and fell from a height of more than 30 meters.”

According to the source, ACT has already mobilized a team of inspectors to the scene to conduct the necessary investigations and establish the causes of the incident.

Lusa was contacted by a source from the Setúbal territorial command of the NTC, who said the victims were 21 and 37 years old, both Brazilian citizens.

A source from the Subregional Command for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of Alentejo said that at 16:29 firefighters received a warning that temporary or mobile structures had fallen.

It was “a fall of scaffolding at the Repsol Polimeros plant, with two casualties,” the sub-regional command said, declining to give other details.

13 operatives were mobilized to the scene, supported by six vehicles, including firefighters, GNR and the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM).
