The Lisbon Chamber presents an exhibition on housing policy

The housing policy of the last two centuries is the subject of an exhibition organized by the Lisbon City Council, which will open to the public on February 3 at Pimenta Palace.

A statement from the Metropolitan Municipality emphasizes that the exhibition aims to present “the urban results of housing policies in the city”, highlighting the differences of various policies over the past 200 years, “in particular with regard to architecture options, morphology, urban design, recipients and location”.

The idea is to, based on the “rich experience of the capital in the field of housing”, to think about “national as a whole, in the sense that the measures implemented were often innovative and influenced the rest of the country”, explains autarchy, chaired by the social democrat Carlos Coins.

Organized by political regimes (Constitutional Monarchy, First Republic, Military Dictatorship, Estado Novo and Democratic Portugal), the exhibition shows how “housing policies adopted in the last two centuries have markedly affected Portuguese cities, making it possible to find areas promoted directly or indirectly by the state on throughout the national territory.”

Through photographs, plans, distribution maps and models, visitors are invited to follow the evolution of housing policy in the city.

Organized by the Lisbon City Council (Lisbon Municipal Archive) in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon, the exhibition “Housing Policy in Lisbon: From Monarchy to Democracy” will be held. exhibition from February 3 to April 30, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00, at the Pavilhão Preto do Museu de Lisboa-Palácio Pimenta.

There is the possibility of participating in guided tours and planning group visits.

Curated by Gonçalo Antunes and a scientific commission composed of Helena Roseta, Joao Seixas, Luis Baptista, Miguel Silva Graza, Nuno Pires Soares, Ricardo Santos, Sandra Marques Pereira and Teresa Costa Pinto, the opening of the exhibition is scheduled for 2 February 18:00, in Black pavilion of the Museum of Lisbon-Palácio Pimenta.
