Fenprof demands a review of the hospital mobility regime for teachers

This Wednesday in Coimbra, Fenprof demanded that the next government review the current regime of teacher mobility due to illness, warning of a growing number of teachers unable to work.

“We will have a growing number of teachers who will be prohibited from teaching,” said the secretary general of the National Federation of Teachers, Mário Nogueira, insisting that this will happen unless the legal regime is reviewed and adjusted, as early as 2024, so that the reality of teachers with limited capabilities.

Since it came into force in 2022, “this imaginary regime has left behind about one and a half thousand” professionals who have requested such protection from the Ministry of Education (MOE), he said.

At a press conference at the Training Center of the Union of Teachers of the Central Region (SPRC), associated with Fenprof, Mario Nogueira said that the change of diploma “is one of the first measures that must be taken” by the government created by the legislative elections on March 10.

“The bill cannot remain in force,” he emphasized, believing that “this problem can be resolved at a meeting” of representatives of teachers and the Ministry of Economics, even considering that this is a “government decree-law.”

He criticized that the diploma was published with the aim of “creating an atmosphere of suspicion towards teachers.”

“We want this torment to not continue [no próximo ano letivo]- the trade union leader spoke.

Over the past two years, the Ministry of Education has “shown stubbornness in maintaining this regime,” arguing that “fraudulent write-offs have occurred.”

“What is what you consider fraud. You are once again tarnishing the image of teachers,” he accused, recalling that on January 10, Fenprof sent a “letter to the ME asking for information” about these allegedly illegal situations.

According to Mario Nogueira, “it remains to be seen what kind of fraud the Ministry of Education was talking about,” which sometimes “is nothing more than a simple lack of reporting,” for example.

Since there has still been no response to this request, the federation will file a “request for subpoena” with the Lisbon Administrative Court for the Ministry to provide information about the alleged fraud.

However, Fenprof intends to find out “what the parties” challenging the legislative elections say about the protection of teachers with disabling diseases.

At the meeting with journalists, Mário Nogueira was accompanied by six teachers from different districts who testified about their incapacity due to the illness or illness of dependent family members and who, due to various administrative circumstances, are unable to work next to their family. at home, and do not enjoy legal protection.
