Portuguese swimmer Diogo Ribeiro qualified for the FINA World Championships 100m butterfly finals in Doha this Friday, breaking the national record for that distance.
Diogo Ribeiro had the fastest time in the semi-finals, swimming in 51.30 seconds, 15 hundredths of a second off his previous national record.
This will be Diogo Ribeiro’s second final in Doha after becoming world champion in the 50m butterfly.
The 100m butterfly final is scheduled for Saturday at 16:42 (Lisbon time).
In the morning, having secured his presence in the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly, 19-year-old Diogo Ribeiro swam the 50m freestyle but failed to qualify for the semi-finals, clocking the 18th time of 22.14 seconds. Slovakian Matej Duza (16th) is only two hundredths from last place.
Miguel Nascimento finished the 50-meter freestyle qualifying heats with a 26-place record with a time of 22.25 seconds.
In the women’s 200m backstroke, Camila Rebelo’s 18th time (2:13.33 minutes) was seven hundredths away from the semi-finals, while Tamila Golub was 19th in the 800m freestyle qualifying with a time of 8:45.94. who have qualified. the first eight for the final.
