The pollen concentration in the atmosphere has already reached its maximum level in several regions of the country, such as Lisbon, Setubal, Évora and Vila Real. Information appears in the latest Pollen Bulletin of the Portuguese Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC).
The forecast for this week is that pollen grains present in the atmosphere will primarily come from cypress, followed by alder, grass grass, nettle, sorrel and nettle (including parietaria), SPAIC said.
Even though spring has not yet begun, symptoms associated with pollen allergies may begin to appear in areas where pollen concentrations are highest.
According to SPAIC, outdoor activities should be avoided, home and car windows closed, and motorcyclists should wear a full-face helmet.
Regarding medications, SPAIC advises contacting a specialist doctor for diagnosis and prescription of medications, and also warns about the need for prevention, which can be carried out, for example, with allergy vaccines.
