The brother of Russian opponent Alexei Navalny is on Russia’s most wanted list. Authorities will open a new criminal case against 40-year-old Oleg Navalny, but without solving the crimes in question, the Russian TASS agency reports.
The mother was getting ready to go to the morgue, but she was not allowed to enter all the time. Lyudmila Navalnaya made a video, which was later published by Reuters, in which she demands access to her son’s body. “Vladimir Putin, let me finally see my son,” he said.
“I haven’t seen him for five days now, they haven’t given me his body or even told me where he is,” she says indignantly. “I demand that Alexei’s body be released immediately so that I can bury him in a humane manner,” he concludes.
In 2014, Oleg Navalny was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for fraud in a case that Kremlin opponents said was fabricated to put pressure on his late brother. Navalny died last Friday and the family has not yet had access to his body. His team says investigators will examine the body for at least 14 days before releasing it to the family.
