A 66-year-old taxi driver was arrested on Tuesday by the PSP in Arroios on suspicion of committing a speculative crime.
According to the PSP statement, after the end of the service, the man asked and received from passengers 35 euros instead of 10.85, which was shown by the taximeter. The suspect has already been sent seven times for the same reason.
After the agents questioned the passengers and were satisfied that the amount requested by the taxi driver was not correct, they detained the taxi driver and he returned the €24.15 he had overcharged the passengers.
The suspect’s vehicle and identification were seized.
The suspect was taken to the prosecutor’s office of the local court for minor crimes in Lisbon and was notified of a court hearing, the date of which has not yet been confirmed.
